ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out safety checks before vehicle use and promptly report any issues to the Director of Risk Management and Director of Maintenance
- Transport ambulatory residents to medical appointments, offering assistance and care as needed at hospitals and doctors’ offices
- Support Social Service and Nursing staff by arranging transportation for non-ambulatory residents to ensure timely appointments
- Maintain an organized calendar of transportation appointments to enhance efficiency and prevent missed trips
- Retrieve medical supplies from Wayne Healthcare for the Nursing Department and deliver lab work and paperwork to Wayne Healthcare
- Transport residents' dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and other appliances for repair
- Participate in in-services and community workshops to stay updated on transportation, long-term care, and gerontology topics
- Assist with hospital admissions as directed by the Director to support department function and improve resident care
- Absorb residents arriving on time for appointments, assisting staff from neighborhoods unable to escort residents to pickup locations
- Show patience and empathy when assisting frail or emotionally distressed residents coping with illness and disability
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with elderly populations in long-term care is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Effective verbal communication skills with residents, staff, and groups
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, tens, and hundreds
- Capable of applying these operations to money, weight, volume, and distance measurements
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions
- Ability to handle problems involving a limited number of variables in standardized situations
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with excellent driving record, including completion of a Defensive Driving Course
- STNA, First Aid, and CPR certifications are mandatory
