About the role

Position: Resident Service Coordinator
Location: Fair Park Apartments - 133 Maple Ave, Sardinia, OH 45171
Hours: Part-Time (10 hours)
Pay: $14-$16/hr - Depending on Experience

Responsibilities

  • To identify the social, emotional, employment, education, and medically related needs of all residents on an individual and group basis and provide services to meet those needs.
  • Service Development, Linkage, and Coordination:
    • Identifies, distributes information about, and links residents to existing community services that help to improve housing stability, increase self-sufficiency, and build safe and supportive communities.
    • Conducts assessments to determine individual and group-level resident goals, interests, and needs.
    • Creates a network, and directory, of local social service agencies to facilitate residents’ access to resources, programs, and services.
    • Maintains confidentiality with respect to information shared by residents and services provided to residents. Professionalism is essential in this position.
  • Community Building:
    • Works with residents to develop a sense of fellowship and community using organization and facilitation skills. This may involve the development of resident associations, community-based newsletters, welcoming committees, orientation packages, support groups, etc.
  • Outreach and Advocacy:
    • Raises awareness among local service providers of the needs of residents of the housing community and promotes partnerships that helps residents gain access to needed services.
    • Refers for case management any resident experiencing problems that threaten health, safety and continued independence, while supporting the resident in remaining at home.
    • Provides follow-up to referrals to ensure appropriate service delivery.
    • Helps residents apply for fair hearings when there is reason to believe the resident is eligible for a denied service.
    • Helps market the housing property through networking contacts in the community.
  • Record Keeping and Other Considerations:
    • Keeps appropriate resident files that document conversations with or about residents, problems identified, referrals made on behalf of residents, residents' refusal or acceptance of services, and residents’ progress.
    • Completes reports regarding services provided, resident outcomes, and resident satisfaction, as required.
    • Develops a working knowledge of housing rules and issues such as reasonable accommodations, the lease and lease violations, etc.
    • Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in human services or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience serving low-income individuals, families, seniors, and/or persons with disabilities, or related populations.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of community support services available to residents of family and/or senior housing developments as well as the eligibility requirements for accessing those services.
  • Experience working with older persons and/or families in a direct service capacity, especially in the areas of advocacy, self-sufficiency, service negotiation and community building.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.), data management tools (i.e., databases), and the internet.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships with residents; individually, and as a group.
  • Ability to listen to and assist residents in defining their problems; to help identify possible solutions and resources.
  • Ability to seek input from residents, to research possible service vendors, to evaluate services delivered and make adjustments, if needed.
  • Ability to counsel or advocate in non-judgmental ways to empower residents to make personal decisions and enhance their self-esteem and independence.
  • Ability to develop community-oriented activities that build bridges between people, promote active interest in the life of the property, and generate resident self-sufficiency.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
