Primary Purpose

Responsible for providing direct and/or indirect health care services to assigned patient population.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an approved college of Medicine/Osteopathy.
  • PY-3 or higher in good standing with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's Psychiatry Residency Training Program or affiliated Psychiatry Fellowship Program.
  • Valid unrestricted Texas Medical License.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, or Advance Life Support (ALS) certification (must maintain for the duration of employment).
  • Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) certification (must pass and obtain).
  • Meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Graduate Medical Education Requirements for Additional Medically Related Work.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality management of patient care as assigned.
  • Performs psychiatry on the Parkland Psychiatric Emergency Service, evaluating and treating patients in the Parkland Main Emergency Department as a consultant, as well as patients in the Parkland Emergency Department if needed.
  • Discusses each case with the assigned faculty psychiatrist for each shift, providing clear and thorough information for staffing and supervision; final disposition decisions are made by the faculty psychiatrist.
  • Documents each psychiatric evaluation clearly, thoroughly, consistently, and promptly during each shift, designating each note to be attested by the supervising faculty psychiatrist.
  • Promptly relays important information to the consulting physician, such as the need for emergent medical or psychiatric intervention.
  • Records health history, findings, treatment, and recommendations accurately, clearly, and thoroughly during each shift, designating each note to be attested by the supervising faculty physician.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction, making recommendations to supervisors, implementing changes, and monitoring results.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field through seminars, workshops, professional journals, and active participation in professional organizations; integrates knowledge into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines; develops effective internal controls to promote adherence with laws, accreditation requirements, and health plans.
