Resident Monitor, Boys Ranch or J5

Duties

• Maintain safety, security, and supervision by providing continuous direct visual supervision of the youth and the milieu.
• Oversee daily activities including guiding youth through the daily routine, identifying and promoting strengths, enforcing guidelines and expectations, holding youth accountable through the token economy, and reporting treatment concerns to Case Managers, Program Managers, and Program Directors as necessary.
• Provide active supervision, interaction, and engagement with the residents.
• Model appropriate, prosocial behaviors.
• Establish positive rapport with youth by guiding behaviors.
• Timely documentation of daily log, comment cards, and behaviors.
• Conduct searches of resident’s personal belongings and personal areas.
• Prepare to utilize CPI interventions to manage residents’ behaviors.
• Provide immediate responses and interventions to youth in crisis.
• Support the positive potential of each youth, acknowledge pro-social behaviors.
• Maintain awareness of the resident’s case plan and commitment offense(s) and that interactions are consistent with their short-term goals and treatment plans.
• During night shift, make periodic surveillance rounds of facility and check on residents at least every one-half (1/2) hour, waking of residents.
• Transportation of resident (doctor appointments & activities).
• Aid in preparation of meals.
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
• Perform other duties as requested by Program Manager, Treatment Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Effectively provide intervention and redirection to residents and document interactions.
• Demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work respectfully with other staff, referring agencies, parents, residents, schools and others.
• Retain information about youth history, the milieu, and treatment plans.
• Have an awareness in the milieu, attention to detail and time management.
• A Bachelor’s degree with major study in social work, psychology, sociology or a closely allied field is preferred.
• To be considered as a substitute for a bachelor’s degree, the combination of formal education and experience must consist of a combination of (1) one year of work experience and (2) two years of education, training, or additional work experience, all in the care and rehabilitation of youth.
• Valid Oregon driver license and CPR/1st Aid certification required within first 30-days.
• Physical Requirements: While performing the duties for the job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee occasionally is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
