Resident Maintenance Technician

About the role

As a Resident Maintenance Technician, you will provide first-class maintenance support for automated storage and retrieval systems and storage and picking systems installed at the customer’s location. You will apply industrial electrical/mechanical expertise to maximize equipment utilization and efficiency, assist in developing and implementing maintenance processes, and handle electro-mechanical faults and preventative maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

• Rectify electro-mechanical faults and provide specialist technical assistance as a support technician
• Respond to emergency calls by the customer
• Promote safety in all activities and demonstrate ownership of problems
• Provide first-class response to the customer, ensuring a first-time right policy where reasonably practical
• Handle emergency breakdown and specialist maintenance support
• Set up and calibrate precision automation equipment
• Build strong working relationships with the customer and their operational agents
• Maintain performance in expected output, speed of response, quality of repair, and workmanship standards
• Train the customer’s maintenance team as required
• Provide expertise in the installation of conveyor and precision automation equipment
• Maintain service quality through effective communication with customers
• Ensure reports are well written and legible
• Execute site quality procedures, safety procedures, and statutory procedures
• Participate in regular meetings to discuss activities and progress
• Provide specialist maintenance service support for the customer’s installed system
• Log spare parts usage promptly with the KNAPP Spare Parts team
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of tooling and equipment
• Demonstrate flexibility and best use of skills and capabilities
• Submit accurate and legible time sheets and documents biweekly for approval
• Perform mechanical strip-down/re-assembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration, and system testing
• Work against timeframes to complete reactive repairs
• Interact with on-site management to inform them of repair and maintenance progress
• Show hands-on ownership of issues to achieve quick resolution
• Carry out risk assessments and appreciate health & safety considerations
• Read assembly drawings and operate hand tools to assemble parts onto equipment
• Follow set-up instructions, assembly drawings, and checklists
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate degree preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• 0-3 years direct experience in providing repairs on machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems (utilizing 480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 48VDC, 24VDC, VFDs, and PLCs—Siemens preferred)
• 0-3 years experience in equipment maintenance, modifications, and design preferred
• Theoretical and operational experience in repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment, and control systems
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent customer service skills
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/German) preferred but not required
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and process-oriented mentality
• Network equipment interfaces experience a plus
• Hands-on experience and a team-player mindset committed to improving processes
• Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies
• Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to read assembly drawings
• Strong attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills
• Computer literate with basic Microsoft Office skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing role requirements
• Appreciation of cultural diversity

Working Conditions

• Travel required up to 10%
• Weekends and overtime as required by work
• Physical requirements may include: sitting, squatting, walking for long distances, reaching out to arm’s length, reaching overhead, climbing ladders, working at heights, lifting up to 100 pounds, and reading
