About the role

The Milwaukee YMCA is seeking camp counselors for its resident site, Camp Minikani. The position aligns with the organization's mission and core values, which emphasize being cause-driven, welcoming, genuine, hopeful, and nurturing.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; one year of college education is preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certified before the start of staff training
  • Must be able to work outdoors for the majority of the day
  • Requires participation with and leadership of youth in a wide variety of physical activities; requires the ability to traverse the campgrounds on a frequent basis throughout the day
  • Good communication skills are required; must be able to interact with campers, parents, and co-workers
  • Must exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of work with the YMCA

Essential Functions

  • Assume full responsibility for all the campers in your cabin 24 hours a day, besides from assigned time off.
  • Committed to making a positive impact in the lives of the kids we serve through teaching and participating in activities, social skills, and other aspects
  • Follow all camp policies and COVID-19 protocols in order to mitigate safety and health risks
  • Provide leadership trainees with formal evaluations to coach them on their developing leadership skills
  • Provide kids ages 7-17 exceptional programming and enriching life experiences through planning and executing activities.
  • Work to ensure that all campers and staff feel included, welcomed, and safe at camp
  • Be a role model to campers and staff!
