Key Responsibilities
- Spend time with residents through conversation, games, crafts, walks, music, and other shared activities
- Encourage participation in meals, recreation, and community events
- Aid in recreational, educational, or wellness activities such as arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, mindfulness exercises, and seasonal celebrations
- Offer encouragement and a supportive, non-judgmental presence
- Help create a warm, stigma-free atmosphere that promotes dignity and inclusion
- Occasionally assist with activity preparation, special events, or other non-clinical tasks as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Mercy Haven safety guidelines
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful of individuals living with mental illness
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality
- Experience in mental health, peer support, or human services is helpful, but not required
- Must complete volunteer orientation and background screening
