Westwood Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community, is seeking an overnight Resident Care Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight for routine and emergent resident care services.
About the role
The Resident Care Supervisor demonstrates positive leadership and ensures the provision of high-quality care during each shift.
Responsibilities
- Respects and maintains resident rights and confidentiality.
- Listens and responds to residents’ requests promptly and cheerfully.
- Assists in providing for the social, emotional, and cultural needs of residents.
- Leads each shift in a respectful manner and according to company policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Medication Technician and Resident Care Assistant.
- Monitors residents’ needs and makes appropriate referrals to outside service providers using DePaul’s Policies and Procedures.
- Assists in providing a cheerful and homelike environment.
- Monitors the work performance of RCAs, HHAs, and PCAs to ensure residents receive required assistance without feeling rushed.
- Communicates clearly and thoroughly with staff members on shift and incoming shifts regarding resident and community issues.
- Communicates with residents’ families and responsible persons in a timely and professional manner.
- Builds warm, positive, caring, and supportive relationships with residents.
- Relates professionally to staff from regulatory agencies.
- Completes and reviews all written documentation prior to leaving the shift.
- Participates in required twelve (12) hours of in-service education per year and other necessary training.
- Reports any staff or resident issues promptly using DePaul’s documentation systems before leaving the shift.
- Maintains daily time card recording as described in the staff handbook.
- Performs all other duties as directed by the Resident Care Director.
Requirements
- Warmth, understanding, and responsiveness to residents and their demands.
- Positive interactions with families and visitors, exercising patience and tact.
- Ability to use initiative, judgment, and resourcefulness to lead the shift successfully.
- Ability to treat supervisees, staff, residents, and families with respect at all times.
- Ability to communicate in English with residents and others.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
- Ability to visually observe residents.
- Ability to audibly hear call bells, emergency systems, and verbal needs expressed by residents.
- Ability to turn, stoop, bend, and stretch to assist residents.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies, including evacuation of residents and visitors.
- Ability to push a medication cart down hallways without assistance.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- HS diploma or GED preferred.
- CNA, HHA, or PCA certification preferred.
- Must be dependable, hardworking, and willing to work as part of a team.
- Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Must be First Aid certified (DePaul will provide training).
- Must pass the Health Evaluation exam/tests at hire and annually.
- Must be approved by the NYS Criminal History Background Check (CHRC) unit and meet company employment criteria.
Work Environment
- Well-lit, air-conditioned/heated environment.
- May be exposed to residents with communicable diseases or confused residents who become combative.
- May occasionally work outside when required by resident care needs (e.g., resident walks or outdoor activities).
Pay
$18.00 - $18.30 per hour
