About the Role

The Resident Care Specialist (RCS) provides leadership, support, and direction to multiple communities within our portfolio to ensure company policy, procedure, and regulatory compliance standards are met. This role works closely with resident care teams to develop and implement processes, identify and resolve issues, and manage associates. The RCS helps grow and develop an exceptional resident care team through purposeful hiring, individualized training, and creative scheduling. This position requires 100% travel across several states, with potential for lengthy assignments at one community.

Requirements

  • Maintains an unencumbered state license as a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia. Compact nursing license with multi-state privileges preferred.
  • Certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Director of Nursing, Resident Care Director, or Assisted Living Director.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nurse management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and daily resident care operation supervision.
  • Ability to teach Virginia Direct Care Training Class and Medication Aide Training (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Virginia UAI Certified (or ability to obtain).
  • Individualized Service Plan (ISP) Train the Trainer through the State of Virginia (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with resident assessment and care planning.
  • High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to understand and conceptualize complex concepts and make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.
  • Confirmed leadership experience—able to inspire and motivate others.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours as needed for resident care and services, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates sincere compassion and genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of seniors and their families.
  • Proficient in basic office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Valid and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Models a business philosophy that treats every resident and family member as a personal customer.
  • Ensures provision of services to residents and monitors compliance with Federal and State policies governing resident care.
  • Functions as a care manager and resource person for residents and their families.
  • Evaluates community resident care schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels within budget and state law.
  • Assists the Resident Care Director with designing and executing retention strategies for residents.
  • Acts as interim Resident Care Director for communities with vacancies.
  • Supports orientation for new Resident Care Directors, Assistant Resident Care Directors, and resident care associates.
  • Ensures completion of resident assessments twice per year or with changes in condition.
  • Monitors readiness for state surveys and assists during the survey process.
  • Aids in the plan of correction (POC) process through training, auditing, and systemic changes.
  • Identifies and resolves regulatory compliance risks.
  • Reviews community systems (e.g., falls, infection control, admissions, re-hospitalizations, medication management) and suggests process improvements.
  • Evaluates departmental schedules to ensure adequate staffing per company and state standards.
  • Communicates effectively with community personnel, including entrance and exit conferences with leadership.
  • Interviews, hires, evaluates, motivates, and monitors care associates, focusing on candidates who model core values.
  • Establishes rapport with residents, families, associates, managers, providers, vendors, and regulatory personnel.
  • Provides education, training, and competency assessments for community personnel on resident care skills and policies.
  • Evaluates compliance with continuing education programs for direct care associates.
  • Collaborates with community associates to address needs and provide training on policies and procedures.
  • Conducts resident interviews/observations to identify changes in physical or emotional health.
  • Maintains clear record-keeping on consulting visits, including follow-up actions.
  • Delegates responsibility appropriately while retaining accountability.
  • Attends scheduled meetings, conferences, and training sessions as required.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Senior Vice President of Resident Care.
  • Promotes a safe working environment through accident prevention and safe practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay

$95,000-$110,000 per year.

Schedule
