Resident Care Assistant: CNA/ HHA/PCA Full Time Overnight

Full-time overnight position, 12-hour shift (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM).

About the Role

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist residents in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including toileting, bathing, dressing, taking vital signs, and assessing residents’ need for additional medical attention. You will also provide medication reminders and cueing under the supervision of the Nursing Coordinator, and participate in the recreation program under the direction of the Recreation Director.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with ADLs, including toileting, bathing, dressing, and feeding.
  • Assist residents with ambulation and mobility devices such as canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  • Help residents with ADL devices, including glasses and hearing aids.
  • Perform treatments such as taking vital signs, weights, temperatures, skincare, and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Assist residents with medications under the supervision of the Nursing Coordinator, including cueing and reminders.
  • Document and refer to all pertinent record-keeping systems (e.g., diabetic list, toileting book, dietary needs book, daily communication book, and miscellaneous flow sheets).
  • Assist the multi-disciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating resident care plans.
  • Attend and contribute to care planning meetings as assigned.
  • Escort residents to medical appointments within the facility and in the community as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in residents’ rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
  • Ensure all resident care supplies are in stock and communicate needs to the Nursing Director.
  • Observe and report unsanitary conditions, fire or safety hazards, and faulty equipment.
  • Immediately report any changes in a resident’s physical, cognitive, or emotional status to the Nursing Coordinator or Program Director.
  • Support the Therapeutic Recreation Department by assisting in daily activities and special events.
  • Assist residents to and from recreation programming.
  • Provide ad-lib recreation programming for awake residents during overnight shifts.
  • Maintain control of the hand-held security phone.
  • Document resident incidents/issues for communication to the day shift.
  • Work collaboratively with peers as a team and assist in training new staff.
  • Ensure resident safety and well-being during overnight shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Home Health Aide (HHA), or Personal Care Assistant (PCA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct service experience with the elderly.
  • Knowledge of, and/or 1 year of experience working with people with Alzheimer’s Disease and/or related disorders.
  • Sensitivity to issues of aging.
  • Ability to be flexible with scheduling and work assignments, and to work as part of a team.
  • Maintain all certifications required for employment.

Pay

$20 – $23 per hour, depending on experience.
