Resident Care Assistant

About the Role

The primary purpose of your job position is to care for residents with impaired ability to perform at an independent level due to disease process, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

• Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service policies and procedures.
• Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
• Identify special resident problems and report them immediately to Charge Nurse.
• Provide direct resident care as assigned.
• Initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance of Charge Nurse, Treatment Nurse, or Nursing Supervisor.
• Identify safety hazards and emergency situations, initiate the appropriate action within the scope of a STNA, and report to the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
• Participate in facility education programs as assigned.
• Attend all classes as assigned and complete assignments.
• Assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
• Assume accountability for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within the unit assigned and within your span of control.
• Report unusual problems or incidents to Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
• Participate in resident care conferences and other facility meetings as assigned.
• Participate in the development of an individualized plan of resident care for assigned residents.
• Report changes in resident’s condition to Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.
• Perform basic nursing skills as outlined in facility educational programs.
• Listen to resident and family complaints and report problems to Charge Nurse.
• Control angry feelings.
• Answer call lights.
• Provide AM and PM care, perform ADLs, give showers, baths, and whirlpool.
• Lift, turn, and transfer residents.
• Use the Hoyer Lift per facility policy.
• Serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner trays and assist residents as needed.
• Change incontinent residents.
• Walk ambulatory residents.
• Complete tub baths, showers, bed baths, and whirlpools.
• Report anything unusual about residents to Charge Nurse.
• Empty and record all urinary drainage units.
• Practice Infection Control procedures.
• Report any Bloodborne Pathogen injuries to your supervisor immediately.
• Know the location of the eye wash system.
• Follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times.
• Consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, restorative assistance, other nursing assistants, physicians, families, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers.
• Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
• Come to work in a clean, neat uniform, and consistently present a professional appearance.
• Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
• Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
• Assume accountability for data contained in the employee’s handbook.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the Director of Nursing, Head Nurse, Supervisor, and Charge Nurse.
• Perform tasks/duties related to the shift you are working.
• Make rounds at the beginning and end of your shift during change of shift.
• Report on time, receive report from the Charge Nurse, and ask questions concerning the care of the resident to assure follow-through.
• Report any change in condition, complaint, questions, or concerns to the Charge Nurse regarding the resident.
• Give updated reports to the Charge Nurse concerning assigned residents throughout your shift.
• Report to the Charge Nurse if a resident eats less than 50% of their meals.
• Chart intake and outputs for your shift, BMs, and vital signs.
• Take a Pulse Ox.
• Report any safety hazards noted.
• Clean any spills noted or caused by yourself.
• Report any incident/accident immediately to the Supervisor.
• Follow Employee and Facility Incident and Accident policies and procedures.
• Follow Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Follow all rules and statements regarding the Handbook.
• Change linen as necessary.
• Prepare residents for bed.
• Review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined.

Requirements

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Ability to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
• Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
• Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
• Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Pay

$14-$16.00 per hour with daily pay shift differentials.

Schedule

Full-time, morning shift: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM.
