GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the designee or nurse in charge of the nursing unit, the Resident Care Assistant performs basic and repetitive nursing services, assists in carrying out routine assignments, transports and prepares residents and equipment, and keeps equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition as directed. Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the individuals served.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Work Experience
No prior experience is necessary.
Special Employment Requirements
- Cleared State Police and/or FBI Check according to Act 169 regulations.
- Passes post-offer pre-placement physical exam; and initial and subsequent annual TB screenings required.
- Adheres to established company/program policies and procedures and regulations relating to safety and infection control.
- Must be sixteen years of age or older (will work within restrictions of child labor law).
- CPR Certification preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction (including promoting and maintaining positive relationships) with patients, visitors or other personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Willing to rotate to other units as necessary.
Physical Demands
- Light work: duties require exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects.
- Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.
- Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.
Accident or Health Hazards
- Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
- Exposure to needle sticks possible.
Working Conditions
Majority of work is performed in the resident living area. Work area may also include transportation van and resident external appointment sites.
