Responsibilities
Student Staff Supervision and Community Development – 40%
Review and explain Housing and University policy.
Review Incident Reports.
Complete documentation regarding Community Action Conference findings (letters, database, etc.).
Mediate high-level roommate conflicts.
Professional Staff Team Member – 10%
Attend weekly Residence Life Team meetings, monthly Department meetings, and other meetings as needed.
Serve on department committees as needed.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor for new team members.
Duty and Crisis Response – 5%
Respond to emergencies and other crises which may require driving to remote locations.
Provide regular updates regarding incidents that occur while serving on duty.
Resident Advocate – 5%
Facilitate problem solving meetings amongst residents.
Provide academic advising and assistance.
Advise Student Groups - 5%
Attend council meetings.
Provide guidance and mentorship to volunteer student staff.
Meet regularly with the president and/or executive board of the council.
Oversee Facilities – 5%
Work with custodial, grounds, and maintenance staff to ensure a safe and clean living area.
Follow-up on building damage issues as appropriate.
Administrative – 5%
Complete weekly and annual reports.
Aid in the professional staff hiring process.
Complete and submit all necessary budgetary paperwork.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
Experience: Possession of the knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the following Experience requirements. Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work or other related field preferred.
Experience working with on-campus housing and advising special interest groups (non-traditional, cultural, LGBTQQIA, etc.) preferred.

Initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
Interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
Reason logically.
Collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
Recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of Cal Poly Humboldt’s overall operation, functions, and programs.
Make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
