Residence Hall Director
SUNY New Paltz seeks 2 (anticipated) Complex Directors for a ten-month, live-in position within the Residence Life department.
About the Role
The Complex Director reports directly to an Area Coordinator of Residence Life and is responsible for the operation of one residence hall housing up to 300 students, as well as specialized departmental responsibilities for a residential program of approximately 3,000 students. This position includes a furnished apartment and meal plan, along with excellent New York State and Union benefits.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise Resident Assistants in the assigned building, including training, development, support, and evaluations.
- Oversee community development through cultural, educational, and social programs addressing the needs of the residence hall.
- Counsel and advise students on academic, vocational, and personal matters, and provide training to staff for counseling support.
- Actively advise hall government and assist in developing leadership programs.
- Serve as a member of a departmental functional team (Administrative Operations, Leadership Development, Program Development, Assessment, Advancement, or Judicial).
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Enforce Federal, State, and College regulations within the hall and across campus.
- Support the development and accomplishment of goals for the Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Residence Life.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, providing 24-hour support for students and responding to crises or incidents.
- Support on-campus health and safety efforts during emergencies, including severe weather, pandemics, facilities issues, and other crisis scenarios.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree desirable.
- Relevant residence hall experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement residence hall programming, community building, and staff training.
- Strong administrative skills and ability to multitask.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse staff and students.
