About the role

This is a live‑in, part‑time role (one‑year fixed‑term with the option to reapply) in a student residence for under‑18 or over‑18 students. You will live in the same building as your assigned students, with safeguarding at the centre of everything you do. As a trusted adult, you will support students who are often away from home for the first time, requiring maturity, reliability, and strong people skills.

Growth Opportunities

We promote from within. Strong performers are regularly considered for Deputy Head Building Advisor and Head Building Advisor positions—roles with real leadership scope that people in this position have already stepped into. We will support you in working towards these opportunities from day one.

Responsibilities

  • Live on the same floor as your assigned students and be a dependable, approachable presence during every shift.
  • Carry out welfare checks and room checks throughout your shift.
  • Conduct curfew checks to ensure all under‑18 students are in their rooms on time.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly and in line with EF policy.
  • Build positive relationships with students and contribute to a safe, welcoming floor environment.
  • Be present every Sunday for arrivals shifts to welcome new students and help them feel comfortable from day one.
  • Be present for departure shifts to say goodbye to leaving students.
  • Organise a Mentor meeting twice per month, connecting with long‑term students.
  • Conduct three student evaluations throughout their stay: at the start, midpoint, and end.
  • Meet your KPIs and work towards your assigned OKRs as part of the wider residence team.
  • Support students with questions about their experiences, including rules, conduct, and basic academic knowledge.
  • Demonstrate a customer‑focused approach and clearly communicate expectations to other staff.

Shift Hours

8:00 PM – 12:00 AM, various Saturday and Sunday hours. Overnight on‑call when holding the phone.

Qualifications

  • Responsible and mature individual who takes full ownership of the role and upholds a high standard of conduct.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people, with a clear understanding of duty of care and safeguarding obligations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, approachable manner that fosters trust among students and colleagues.
  • Well‑organized and capable of managing multiple responsibilities concurrently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Results‑oriented mindset with the ability to work towards clearly defined KPIs and OKRs.
  • Prior experience in youth work, education, or a residential setting is advantageous.
