Researcher/Scientist IV, Department of Child Health (COM-P)

About the role

The Research Scientist IV is a dedicated, full-time research leader within the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, providing advanced scientific leadership in pediatric and congenital cardiovascular surgery. Reporting directly to and under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Velez, the Research Scientist IV will be responsible for advancing the Division's research priorities, meeting annual scholarly expectations, and leading collaborative clinical and translational research programs that support the Heart Center's academic mission.

Responsibilities

• Advancing the Division's research priorities
• Maintaining and meeting annual scholarly expectations
• Leading and supporting clinical research initiatives
• Utilizing institutional databases, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Heart Surgery Database, and investigator-initiated research projects
• Independently designing and leading complex research studies
• Serving as a senior collaborator
• Oversight of laboratory operations and personnel
• Participation in clinical productivity reviews, didactic conferences, multidisciplinary rounds, and educational activities
• Publishing research findings
• Developing grant proposals
• Securing research funding
• Collaborating across the Heart Center to advance innovative, high-quality research

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• PhD in a relevant field
• Experience in pediatric and congenital cardiovascular surgery research
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
• Ability to secure external funding
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
