Research Scientist IV - Digital Safety Research Institute

For our client, we are seeking a Research Scientist IV - Digital Safety Research Institute to join the team of a leader in the Aerospace & Defense space. This role will focus on advancing AI safety research and applied software development in support of digital safety best practices. The scientist will conduct technical research, evaluate AI systems with statistical rigor, and help translate findings into practical engineering outcomes. Collaboration with internal team members will be essential to ensure accuracy, quality, and strong documentation across the workstream. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $119,260 – $163,982 annually Responsibilities Conduct literature reviews on AI in specialty areas Design and develop AI software with an emphasis on digital safety best practices Apply troubleshooting skills to resolve AI and software engineering challenges Create statistically meaningful evaluations of AI systems Prepare technical documentation for AI tool components Collaborate closely with team members to ensure accuracy in processes Qualifications PhD in Computer Science with an AI specialty and 4+ years of relevant research experience, or a Master's degree in Computer Science with an AI focus and 6+ years of relevant research experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with an AI emphasis and 10+ years of relevant research experience Mastery-level knowledge of AI safety in a specialty area Proven ability to solve complex engineering research challenges independently Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans Generous 401(k) matching structure of up to 5% of eligible pay, plus an additional 4% investment after one year of continuous employment Paid time off including vacation, holidays, sick days, and volunteer days Flexible working arrangements may be available depending on the role Participation in bonus compensation programs Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
