About the role

The Research Technician III supports basic science research projects within the Leukodystrophy Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). This center focuses on discovering novel genetic causes of leukodystrophies, identifying key biomarkers, and building a repository of natural history data to support clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the day-to-day operations of the Leukodystrophy Center’s translational research program
  • Maintains and expands human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)
  • Differentiates iPSCs into neural stem cells for further development into neuronal and glial lineage lines
  • Performs complex lab experiments and analyzes data
  • Assists in planning and troubleshooting new research protocols and techniques
  • Trains and mentors new staff members
  • Prepares grants, journal articles, posters, and oral presentations
  • Performs routine and non-routine tests/experiments as needed
  • Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies, and equipment
  • Coordinates schedules of tests and procedures
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (such as Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience
  • At least three (3) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (such as Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience (preferred)

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
