About the role
The research technician works within the Acute Lung Injury Center of Excellence, focusing on lung macrophage responses to bacterial infection. They assist with in vivo murine experiments, perform sterile cell culture experiments, and manage mouse colonies.
Responsibilities
- Manage treated mice and tissue harvesting for in vivo and ex vivo studies
- Perform sterile cell culture experiments, drug treatments, and DNA/RNA transfections in vitro
- Assist with laboratory maintenance including preparation of standard buffers, tissue culture room maintenance, order procurement, and mouse colony maintenance
- Maintain meticulous, accurate, and timely data and log books
- Prepare data, graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results for publication
Requirements
- Experience in basic biochemical/molecular techniques including sterile tissue culture technique, western blots, PCR, and DNA/RNA preparation
- Training in more advanced techniques will be provided
- Previous experience with experimental mouse models is preferred
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- 2+ years of relevant experience
Skills
- Excellent analytical reasoning skills
- Physical ability to sit or stand at bench for a few hours, carry and open boxes for lab reagents, and pipette for experiments
