About the role
The Research Technician I position in the Suzuki lab at Houston Methodist Hospital is responsible for performing bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or other scientific techniques according to protocol. This role requires a high level of proficiency in communication, both verbally and written, and the ability to handle sensitive biological materials.
Responsibilities
- Accurately conducts bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or other scientific techniques according to protocol.
- Performs microscope work and basic image analysis.
- Collects and handles human/animal tissue, blood, or other biological specimens safely, including animal handling and basic animal husbandry.
- Conducts quality and safety checks to ensure compliance with departmental and hospital standards.
- Collaborates with the laboratory team to improve departmental processes and outcomes.
- Trains in new techniques and procedures as they emerge, focusing on continual development and updating the individual development plan (IDP).
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education).
- No prior experience required.
- Sufficient proficiency in English for patient and employee safety and security.
- Effective time management and communication skills.
- Experience with computer spreadsheets or databases.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to utilize independent judgment.
