About the role
The Research Technician will investigate neural mechanisms restricting synaptic development and function in brain regions regulating learning and memory in mice. Projects related to Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, and schizophrenia are also ongoing.
Responsibilities
- Operates and properly sterilizes laboratory equipment
- Maintains inventory and assists with ordering
- Participates in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments using cutting-edge techniques in neurobiology
- Uses confocal microscopy and Imaris software for dendritic spine analysis
- Manages rodent animal husbandry, including animal behavior studies such as accelerated rotarod analysis and contextual fear conditioning
- Assists with animal surgery, particularly cranial window implantation
Requirements
- Excellent GPA and outstanding references
- Proven neuroscience experience including skills in confocal imaging and analysis, animal husbandry, surgical skills, and learning and memory behavior analysis
- Strong communication, organization, and record-keeping skills
- Highly motivated team player with strong problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree
- Experience in confocal microscopy and Imaris software
- Rodent animal husbandry skills
- Animal surgery experience, especially cranial window implantation
- Commitment to at least two years
