Research Technician I - Boston, MA
Summary
The position involves assisting in laboratory research and procedures, collecting, verifying, recording, and compiling data, and operating laboratory equipment. Essential duties include performing various research procedures, operating instruments, maintaining laboratory records, and participating in meetings and planning sessions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Aid scientists and technicians in performing research procedures and operating laboratory instruments.
- Collect, record, organize, and verify data; perform calculations and prepare reports.
- Use software applications to assemble, manipulate, and format data.
- Configure and operate laboratory apparatus and instruments; read and record instrument data; tabulate data; keep laboratory records.
- Order chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies.
- Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
- May maintain insects, plants, animals, and/or bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes.
- Stay current in research area through applicable literature.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- Some related laboratory experience preferred.

- Experience with job duties and principles associated with them.
- Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate records of work performed.
- Ability to learn complex tasks with general instruction.
- Ability to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.
Physical Requirements
- Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time.
- Reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s).
- Dexterity to manipulate objects, such as using a keyboard.
- Communication skills using the spoken word.
- Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
- Ability to move about workspace.
- Mobility required to move materials weighing up to several pounds.
- Exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids, and presence of carcinogenic substances.
Compensation And Benefits
- Compensation range: Research Technician I – $17.08 (minimum) - $21.35 (midpoint) - $27.76 (maximum).
