Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states.

The Zhuang lab studies how aging reshapes adult stem cells and their microenvironment to influence tissue regeneration, cancer initiation and therapeutic responses. Successful candidates will learn to generate and exploit novel cancer model systems, including 3D organoid cultures, genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and patient-derived 3D cultures and xenografts. The incumbent will have the opportunity to become involved with all steps of research and contribute to publications. Scientific methodologies include animal models and mouse genetics, 3D culture, multi-omics, flow cytometry, molecular biology and cell and tissue imaging. The experience gained in the lab will be useful for pursuing a career as a researcher or physician.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
  • Interpret and report on experimental results.
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
  • May supervise work-study students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study.
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills.
  • Previous experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, microscopy, flow cytometry and mouse models will be a plus.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
