Research Technician, Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research

About the Role

The full-time Research Technician supports basic and translational kidney disease research by planning, coordinating, and performing moderately complex laboratory experiments involving mouse models, animal and human tissue samples, and immune-based assays. The role includes tissue processing, kidney function measurements, microscopy, immunofluorescence, ELISA, flow cytometry preparation, single-cell suspension generation, data collection, data organization, and preparation of research reports or analyses. The position also helps maintain mouse colony and biobank records, supports study documentation and quality assurance, ensures laboratory safety and compliance procedures are followed, maintains equipment and supplies, and assists with training or guiding junior lab members and students.

General Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
• Organizes analytical data of performed experiments; may submit findings for publication
• Installs and maintains research equipment
• Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
• Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
• Trains junior-level staff
• Plans experiments and short-term goals

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor's degree in science or a related field, plus 2 years of related research experience. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered; education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience, and work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Preferred: Experience or willingness to work with mouse models, including animal handling, colony management, tissue collection, and euthanasia.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. May require travel in order to service various research sites. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Pay and Benefits

Indianapolis, Indiana — $43,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year based on a combination of experience, skill level, education, and training.
