About the role

The Son Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to join our team with a 2–3 year commitment. Our laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and diabetes, with a particular focus on identifying strategies to reverse β-cell dedifferentiation and restore β-cell function. We use a multidisciplinary approach that combines mouse models, human islets, molecular biology, genomics, and advanced imaging techniques. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals planning to pursue graduate school, medical school, or a research career by gaining extensive hands-on experience in a collaborative academic research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology experiments, including RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, and Western blotting.
  • Conduct immunofluorescence staining, microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Assist with mouse colony management, genotyping, phenotyping, and tissue collection (training provided).
  • Isolate pancreatic islets and perform functional assays.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and organize experimental data.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory supplies, and assist with general laboratory operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Prior hands-on laboratory research experience is required.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals (especially mice) is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong commitment to learning and scientific research.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about biomedical research, highly organized, and willing to make a 2–3 year commitment to the laboratory.
