Research Support Specialist position in the Stony Brook Cancer Center under the supervision of Dr. Bergan. Employment is subject to Research Foundation policies, sponsor guidelines, and funding availability.
About the Role
Operate equipment, carry out test procedures, and collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time-management abilities, and exceptional attention to detail. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating professional competence in research activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory maintenance to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with university regulations.
- Conduct experiments and provide technical laboratory support, including animal handling, to assist with research.
- Perform literature searches and stay current in the field by reviewing and discussing relevant literature and experimental results with the supervisor or Principal Investigator (PI).
- Collect data, record observations and measurements, and prepare reports for review by the supervisor or PI.
- Other duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in a Research/Wet lab Laboratory environment.
- Experience operating scientific research equipment, which may include but is not limited to quantitative PCR and/or confocal microscopy.
- Experience carrying out physical, biochemical, or biological-based test procedures.
- Experience collecting, storing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience with rat/mouse animal handling.

Pay
$38,000–$43,000 per year.
Schedule
