KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
- Sets up experiments as described by principal investigator and senior lab members.
- May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
- Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
- Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
- May be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
- Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in clinical studies on sickle cell disease and HIV, including collection, processing, and isolation of PBMCs from human blood samples.
- Perform primary cell culture experiments to probe mechanisms that underlie WBC proliferation.
- Immunological and molecular assays including flow cytometry, DNA extraction, qPCR, and next-generation sequencing to further explore proliferative drive.
- Clean, preprocess, and manage large biomedical and clinical datasets for statistical analysis and data visualization using Python and/or R.
- Maintain Python and/or R codes on lab server, write pseudocode, and provide education to other lab members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for data cleaning and data visualization.
- Experience in clinical research, including working with electronic health records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey findings to interdisciplinary audiences and collaborate effectively with clinicians and researchers.
