(Temporary) Research Specialist

Job Description

The Tolbert Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented temporary research specialist to support a new interdisciplinary research initiative focused on understanding the structure, dynamics, and therapeutic potential of RNA-protein complexes (RNPs).

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced laboratory experiments related to RNA biology, protein biochemistry, and RNA-protein interactions
• Execute established protocols with precision and consistency while maintaining detailed experimental records
• Assist in sample preparation, data collection, and preliminary data analysis
• Contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Maintain accurate and organized lab records, including electronic lab notebooks and shared data repositories
• Afford assistance in troubleshooting experimental challenges and optimizing assay conditions
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Research Scientist and lab members to support multi-project coordination
• Afford assistance in maintaining shared laboratory resources, reagents, and equipment
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related discipline
• Experience in molecular biology techniques, protein biochemistry, and RNA biology
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
