Research Specialist C/D (Department of Otorhinolaryngology)

The Geffen laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania has an opening for a senior research scientist/lab manager. Our laboratory studies the neuronal circuits for sound perception and auditory learning. This position represents an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated individual to assume leadership in running and coordinating ongoing projects in the laboratory. Our laboratory is a close community of energetic scientists, and our trainees have won numerous awards and government/private foundation grants. Responsibilities

• Design and conduct experiments using behavioral, electrophysiological, and imaging techniques
• Maintain mouse colony
• Plan and execute complex experiments involving electrophysiology, optogenetics, and imaging
• Perform immunohistochemistry and preservation of brain tissue
• Supervise research staff
• Maintain and organize laboratory records, databases, and data backups
• Handle supply organization and ordering
• Interpret data and assist with manuscript publications
• Serve as liaison with collaborators
• Develop and troubleshoot experimental protocols
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Research Specialist C: Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Research Specialist D: Master of Science and 3–5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Advanced knowledge of neuroscience and biology
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to learn new techniques and analytical methods
• Reliable, enthusiastic, and collaborative team player

Pay

Annual salary range: $43,919.00 – $76,973.25. Offers are based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, internal equity, and market factors.

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Perelman School of Medicine). Background check required after conditional job offer.
