About the Role

As Research Specialist B in the Baur Lab, take primary responsibility for execution of in vivo and in vitro studies. This includes assisting in writing and implementing protocols, conducting experiments, helping maintain equipment, ordering supplies and animals, performing data collection and analysis, and assisting the laboratory.

As Research Specialist C, work under limited supervision, master technical aspects of laboratory assays, oversee lab safety, and may supervise a team of 2-3 lab members. Directly perform and analyze assays in rodent models, troubleshoot equipment and software issues, and handle administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Research Specialist B:
    • Execution of in vivo and in vitro studies, including assisting in writing and implementing protocols, conducting experiments, maintaining equipment, ordering supplies and animals, and performing data collection and analysis.
    • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Research Specialist C:
    • Work independently and master technical aspects of laboratory assays.
    • Directly perform and analyze assays in rodent models, including:
      • Body composition (NMR; DEXA)
      • CLAMS
      • Treadmill exercise insulin/glucose clamp and radioisotopic tracer kinetics
      • Thermography
      • BAT thermogenesis
      • Tissue chemistry
      • ELISA
      • Glucose and insulin tolerance tests
      • Mass Spectrometry
    • Supervise teams of 2-3 lab members and handle administrative ordering and safety aspects of the laboratory.
    • Aid the PI/Technical Director in interfacing with companies and Penn IT to troubleshoot equipment and software issues.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Research Specialist B: Bachelor's of Science preferred and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with rodents in a laboratory setting required.
  • Research Specialist C: Bachelor's of Science, Master’s degree preferred, and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with rodents in a laboratory setting required.

Position is contingent upon funding.

Pay

$50,875.00 - $78,481.00 Annual Rate. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
