About the role

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine seeks a Research Project Manager B (PM-B) to facilitate the development and oversight of a primary care practice-based research network (PBRN) in collaboration with an existing Pediatric Research Consortium (PeRC) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Responsibilities

  • PBRN Study Management
    • Develop and maintain tools, processes, programs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support clinical research conduct within the PBRN.
    • Oversee core PBRN research support services and facilitate the success of individual investigators and their projects.
    • Collaborate with clinical research efforts, research administration, and physician leadership across Penn Medicine to strengthen the research culture.
    • Support a varied portfolio of clinical research efforts throughout the institution.
  • Training and Compliance
    • Develop, support, and maintain training records for clinical research personnel within the PBRN.
    • Coordinate institutional training opportunities and information-sharing to improve the ambulatory research process.
    • Provide leadership for training efforts targeting investigators, study coordinators, research administrators, and other research support staff.
  • PBRN Business Practices
    • Develop, enhance, and maintain institutional guidelines for study budgets, distinguishing standard from research procedures.
  • PBRN Quality
    • Lead development and implementation of quality improvement (QI) activities for the PBRN.
    • Ensure PBRN programs comply with applicable federal, state, and international research regulations.
    • Select, implement, and evaluate management tools and systems (e.g., investigator databases) for PBRN studies.
    • Support institutional quality goals.
  • Marketing / Development
    • Coordinate with national and academic organizations to attract clinical trials and research projects to Penn Medicine, and foster relationships with peer PBRNs.
    • Provide internal consulting to Penn Medicine divisions on practice-based research and support collaboration between investigators, sponsors, and institutions.
    • Match investigators to federal/corporate research opportunities, respond to site capability inquiries, and support clinician-initiated projects.
    • Identify health services research mentors for primary care clinicians developing research studies.
  • Administrative Leadership
    • Provide administrative leadership and oversight of PBRN staff, including recruitment, training, assessment, retention, and management of position descriptions/evaluations.
    • Build and maintain PBRN infrastructure and resources to support a quality ambulatory research program.
    • Function as part of the senior research administrative team, serving on institutional committees and providing guidance to investigators and compliance/auditing officials.
    • Provide status reporting to senior research administration and help develop systems, policies, and procedures that enhance the institution's research process and compliance culture.

    Qualifications

    • A Master’s degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
    • Preferred candidates will show documented and progressive clinical research experience, with resource and personnel management, as well as an expert understanding of IRB, ICH/GCP guidelines, and familiarity with FDA and other regulatory agencies.
