About the role
The successful candidate will support space instrumentation projects within the Center for Astronomical Adaptive Optics and the UA Space Astrophysics Lab. The faculty member will bridge the gap between science and engineering, working closely with astronomers and engineers to design, build, and commission world-class missions. This position will support new and in-progress space instruments for space-based wide-field astronomy, coronagraphy, and spectropolarimetry; and advancing the technology readiness of a variety of approaches through development, test, and publication.
Responsibilities
- Support space instrumentation projects within the Center for Astronomical Adaptive Optics and the UA Space Astrophysics Lab.
- Bridge the gap between science and engineering, working closely with astronomers and engineers to design, build, and commission world-class missions.
- Support new and in-progress space instruments for space-based wide-field astronomy, coronagraphy, and spectropolarimetry.
- Advance the technology readiness of a variety of approaches through development, test, and publication.
Requirements
- PhD in Astronomy, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in designing, building, and testing space instrumentation.
- Strong background in optics, electronics, and software engineering.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of successful project management.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience with space mission planning and execution.
Skills
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
- Knowledge of spacecraft systems and operations.
- Experience with astronomical data analysis and interpretation.
