About the Role
The successful candidate will serve as Director of the UNC Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (NMRL), providing leadership and oversight for one of the Department's core research facilities. This role supports the instructional, research, and service missions of the Department through expertise in NMR spectroscopy and facility management.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for the operation and administration of the NMR laboratory.
- Consult and collaborate with faculty and students, training and educating users.
- Advocate for the continued growth and modernization of the NMR facility through strategic planning, development of new capabilities, and acquisition of advanced instrumentation.
- Contribute to the Department's research and educational missions through scholarly activities, collaborative research, training and mentoring of students and researchers, and opportunities to participate in instruction related to the theory and practice of NMR spectroscopy.
Requirements
- Strong technical expertise in magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
- Experience with NMR spectroscopy, facility management, and future plans for facility development and modernization.
- Experience with facility development, shared instrumentation management, strategic planning, and grant writing or other external funding activities that support research infrastructure and instrumentation acquisition.
Qualifications
- Experience with solution state NMR (multinuclear, multidimensional spectroscopy including QNMR, reaction monitoring, relaxation experiments, and DOSY).
- Leadership in instrumentation development, user engagement, facility modernization, and external funding initiatives.
- Contributions to scholarly activities, collaborative research, training and mentoring of students and researchers, and opportunities to participate in instruction related to the theory and practice of NMR spectroscopy.

Benefits
