Research Nurse

Regular, full-time position (35 hours per week).

About the role

The Research Nurse will coordinate and manage clinical research studies for the Pediatric Heart Network and other funded grants for the adult congenital and pediatric cardiology research teams. The Pediatric Heart Network (PHN) is a group of hospitals across the United States, Canada, and other countries that conduct research in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) or pediatric acquired heart disease and adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD). The Pediatric Heart Network New York Consortium (PHN-NYC) includes investigators at both Columbia University and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

The position requires a motivated and independent individual with excellent interpersonal skills and strong organizational qualities who can interact with patients, family members, physicians, and researchers.

Responsibilities

• Research project management:
  • Identifying and screening potential participants to determine patient eligibility and completing case report forms.
  • Assisting with scheduling of tests and appointments and managing data collection and submission.
  • Phlebotomy, collecting, processing, and shipping of protocol specimens.
  • Maintaining databases and preparing/monitoring study budgets.
  • Preparing and maintaining regulatory documents for IRB submission; and preparing/attending audits if required.
  • Reporting of adverse events to the IRB, sponsors, and other federal agencies as needed.
  • Consulting with medical records of outlying clinics and hospitals to obtain pertinent data and patient information.
  • Collaborating with ancillary sites involved with the research and interface with various hospital departments, such as medical records, radiology, nursing, information technology services, pharmacy, accounting, and others as needed.
• Pediatric Heart Network – NY Consortium Program Management:
  • Acting as primary contact for the NY consortium, assisting with submission of grants and contracts.
  • Scheduling and conducting team meetings to discuss project status, deliverables, and issues.
  • Attending all meetings, creating and distributing agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Generating progress reports and other information as necessary on behalf of the consortium.
  • Training and creating materials for new coordinators at both institutions and creating presentations as needed.
  • Volunteering for Pediatric Heart Network committees and study coordinator writing committees.
  • Assisting with developing research protocols, SOPs, etc.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required; plus four years of related experience.
• Current NYS RN License (required to qualify for the position).
• BLS certified.
• Must successfully complete systems training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
• Phlebotomy skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
• Highly proficient in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.

Pay

Salary range: $105,000.00 - $110,000.00. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
