About the role
The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks an energetic, creative, knowledgeable, and user-oriented Research Librarian for Engineering to serve as liaison to the Samueli School of Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison to the Samueli School of Engineering, which includes Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
- Develop and implement collection development strategies for engineering-related resources.
- Provide reference and research assistance to faculty, students, and staff.
- Conduct outreach activities to promote library services and resources to the engineering community.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance teaching and learning through the integration of library resources and services.
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees and initiatives related to library services and collections.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience in academic library settings, particularly in engineering or science libraries.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of current trends in library technology and services.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
Qualifications
- Experience in collection development and management.
- Understanding of copyright law and fair use principles.
- Knowledge of library systems and tools such as Koha, ILS, etc.
- Experience with digital collections and preservation.
Skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $72,224 - $102,121 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University of California pay scales.
