About the role

We are seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the Velux Fonden project, based at the University of Southampton, on a fixed-term contract initially for 24 months with the opportunity for extension to 36 months. The Research Fellow will support the development of GIS-based decision-support-tools for spatial planning, and cumulative effects assessment (CEA) of offshore wind (OW).

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of GIS-based decision-support-tools for spatial planning and CEA of offshore wind (OW).
  • Collect, process, and harmonise appropriate geospatial data.
  • Provide geospatial data insights.
  • Apply appropriate AI models for geospatial analysis based on the integrated data.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an integrated multi-disciplinary geospatial database across the Greater North Sea Basin (GNSB) and contributing to the creation and evaluation of GIS-based decision-support-tools to ensure functionality, usability, and data accuracy. The role involves holistic design of decision-support-tools as part of a team with expertise spanning offshore-geotechnical-engineering, marine-ecology, archaeology, and coastal-communities.

Qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent professional qualification in civil/maritime/ocean engineering, geography, oceanography, marine sciences, geology, archaeology, or other.
  • Experience in advanced GIS software for data management, processing & analysis.
  • Preferably, interests & knowledge of offshore renewable energy.
