About the role

This hybrid position is based in Houston, TX. CNA’s Center for Homeland Security and Infrastructure Resilience builds data-driven analytic solutions to address complex and emerging problems. The Research Specialist will collect, process, vet, and analyze data—especially geospatial data—support technical assistance activities, and assist with proposal development. Responsibilities

  • Apply standard research methodologies to gather, process, and analyze data
  • Use relevant database software to organize and present data and generate reports
  • Demonstrate intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and other CNA software packages
  • Develop familiarity with the missions and organizational structure of major clients/sponsors
  • Participate in project team meetings and support preparation for client/sponsor interactions
  • Identify client/sponsor points of contact for assigned projects
  • Develop sufficient expertise on specific tasks, issues, or data to contribute positively to project outcomes
  • Acquire basic knowledge of CNA’s organization, key personnel, SOPs, and business environment
  • Understand core, above core, and above ceiling/domestic concepts and the project development process
  • Communicate information concisely, precisely, and grammatically in oral and written form
  • Present and summarize data effectively
  • Work under close supervision on focused, well-structured project pieces
  • Track personal project spending
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and take initiative to assist colleagues and clients
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Professional work experience, ideally supporting a government agency and applying geospatial analysis
  • Proficiency with Esri’s ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcPro, and the Esri product suite for mapping, visualization, and analysis
  • Experience with statistical analysis and interactive dashboarding tools such as Power BI
  • Ability to work in Python or R
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and database management
  • Very good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Training and presentation experience
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Pay

Compensation is determined using a broadband framework and considers skill sets, experience, education, certifications, and business needs. The current estimated range is approximately $64,200 – $70,000.
