This position is contingent upon the successful award of a government contract. Candidates may be considered and interviewed in advance; however, hiring and start dates are dependent upon contract award and approval to proceed.

About the Role

NV5 is seeking a Geospatial Specialist to provide support for a federal client using the Esri GIS software suite. The role focuses on analysis, development, and maintenance of spatial databases, application development, web-based services, map development, and reporting. Key tasks include integrating environmental models (e.g., DHI models, CALSIM, LTC) with GIS, linking external databases to the ArcGIS environment, designing user interfaces, and maintaining a robust GIS enterprise environment. Some work will involve Remote Sensing technology and in-depth use of computer hardware, software architecture, and peripheral devices such as network printers, scanners, GPS units, and other data collection technologies. A strong understanding of computer architecture and networks is desirable, as occasional system management tasks—such as GIS software upgrades and operating system maintenance—may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform systems analysis, concept and design, and program development, implementation, and documentation in GIS.
  • Prepare and implement user/project setup for GIS-related projects.
  • Design databases, automation and processing macros, and related analytical procedures.
  • Maintain application software and GIS databases.
  • Perform digitizing tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in geography, natural sciences, engineering, or computer sciences.
  • 3+ years of GIS production work using Esri software.
  • 3+ years of experience with Python and/or ModelBuilder.
  • Successful completion of any combination of the following Esri training courses within the last 2 years may substitute for some experience/time requirements:
    • Current ArcGIS Desktop or Pro
    • Building Geodatabases or equivalent coursework
    • Cartographic Production
    • ESRI 3D Creation/Analysis or Visualization coursework
    • Enterprise Geodata Management or equivalent coursework
    • Modernizing your Field Workflows Using Fields for ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in programming languages: VB.net, C#, JavaScript/HTML, ASP.net, MVC, ArcObjects/COM.
  • Understanding of frameworks such as Bootstrap, Breeze, jQuery, and/or Dojo.
  • Must reside in California and be eligible for federal security clearance (DOI). Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.

Work Environment

  • Location: Remote (must reside in California).
  • Travel: Less than 10% of the time, with occasional on-site visits required.

Pay

The pay range for this California position is $70,000 - $90,000 per year. Base pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to medical, financial, and other benefits.
