About the role
The Polarization Research Lab (PRL), led by Associate Professor of Government Sean Westwood, is seeking a Research Director to manage its research operations. PRL was founded in 2022 and focuses on examining democratic attitudes, political trust, elite rhetoric, and governance through rigorous survey research, experimental methods, and public engagement.
Responsibilities
- Manage the lab’s research pipeline from project development to data analysis and publication.
- Develop and oversee the design and implementation of surveys and experiments.
- Conduct and supervise quantitative data analysis and write up findings for peer-reviewed journals and public reports.
- Supervise and mentor postdoctoral and predoctoral researchers, ensuring they meet project deadlines and advance professionally.
- Foster a collaborative team culture among researchers at all levels.
- Contribute to grant proposals and funder reporting as needed.
Requirements
- PhD in Political Science, Economics, Statistics, or Computer Science.
- Advanced statistical and AI skills; substantial experience with writing code.
- Strong writing experience, with a preference for a track record of peer-reviewed journal articles.
- Experience managing complex research projects.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with the ability to support and mentor junior researchers.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: PhD plus 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ph.D. in Political Science, Economics, Statistics, or Computer Science; advanced statistical and AI skills; substantial experience with writing code; strong writing experience, with a preference for a track record of peer-reviewed journal articles; experience managing complex research projects; a collaborative, team-oriented approach, with the ability to support and mentor junior researchers.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience managing or mentoring postdocs or predocs.
- Experience with large-scale surveys or panel studies.
- Track record of peer-reviewed publications.
