Salary range: $8,392.00 - $10,505.00 per month (effective July 1, 2025, this range excludes a temporary pay reduction under the Personal Leave Program 2025). New state employees will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification.

About the role

Under general direction of the Program Manager, the Research Data Specialist III serves as the principal technical resource performing and leading a variety of complex data analyses related to natural and man-made hazards and utility resilience in the context of emergency management and cybersecurity that inform the Commission’s decisions, procedures, and processes. This position determines scope and parameters of data taxonomy, data dictionary, research criteria, and other elements of data collection and analysis, including Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform complex data analyses related to natural and man-made hazards and utility resilience.
  • Define data taxonomy, data dictionary, research criteria, and other elements of data collection and analysis.
  • Utilize Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) for data analysis and decision-making.
  • Prepare and present findings of data analysis to internal groups and the public.

Requirements

  • Experience using statistical methods to analyze data related to utilities, emergency management, public safety, or public health.
  • Experience presenting results of data analysis to the public or internal groups.
  • Eligibility for the classification (see examination bulletin for details).
  • If using education to meet minimum qualifications, submit a transcript or diploma; foreign degrees must be verified for U.S. equivalency by the application deadline.

Special Requirements

Prepare and submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) addressing the following questions (no smaller than 11-point Arial font, single-spaced, and no more than two pages):

  • Describe your experience using statistical methods to analyze data related to utilities, emergency management, public safety, or public health.
  • Describe your experience presenting results of data analysis to the public or internal groups.

All information in the SOQ is subject to verification. Applicants who do not submit a completed SOQ will not be considered.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position. Hybrid telework arrangement.
