Our work includes the annual Regional Competitiveness Report, specialized research studies, public policy research, and collaborative initiatives focused on workforce development, housing affordability, economic mobility, education, transportation, and other issues critical to the region's future.
Position Overview
The Tampa Bay Partnership is seeking a Research & Data Analyst to support the organization's research, data analytics, and public policy initiatives. This role is ideal for an early-career professional interested in applied research, public policy, and regional economic analysis. Reporting to the Senior Director of Research & Public Policy, this position will assist with the collection, analysis, visualization, and communication of data used in regional research and decision-making. The analyst will support the Regional Competitiveness Report, special research projects, grant-funded initiatives, and other public-facing research products.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from federal, state, local, and proprietary sources to support research, benchmarking, and policy initiatives
- Clean, validate, and maintain datasets used in research products, dashboards, and presentations
- Assist with the development and production of the Regional Competitiveness Report and other research publications
- Prepare tables, charts, maps, dashboards, and other data visualizations
- Conduct research and analysis related to economic development, workforce trends, demographics, housing, education, transportation, health, and other regional competitiveness indicators
- Maintain internal databases, dashboards, and data repositories
- Support grant-funded research projects and special studies, including data collection, analysis, and methodology documentation
- Monitor emerging trends affecting regional competitiveness and public policy
- Support the preparation of presentations, briefing materials, and written summaries of research findings
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and support research-related discussions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Communications & Stakeholder Support
- Translate complex data and technical concepts into clear, concise, and actionable insights for non-technical audiences
- Assist with responses to investor, stakeholder, and community requests for data and research
- Support the development of data-driven content for presentations, reports, websites, and other communications materials
- Occasionally present research findings to internal and external audiences
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, data analytics, public policy, sociology, demography, geography, political science, urban planning, mathematics, or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
- Exposure to statistical or programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, or similar tools
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of professional, internship, research assistant, or equivalent analytical experience
- Experience working with large and complex datasets
- Familiarity with federal statistical data sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), or similar providers
- Understanding of survey data, benchmarking, trend analysis, and data quality concepts
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS, or other data visualization and mapping tools
