Responsibilities
- Working with the principal investigator to lead translational research in rodent and porcine models of nerve and spinal cord injury
- Developing neuroprotective therapeutics, engineered tissues, and implantable devices
- Managing interdisciplinary teams and coordinating with CROs
- Supporting grant submissions, intellectual property filings, and early-stage translational activities
- Disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and national presentations
- Co-teaching academic entrepreneurship courses for graduate and professional students
Requirements
- Expertise in the specific area of peripheral nerve injury, spinal cord injury, and regenerative technologies, with emphasis on clinically relevant outcome measures in both small and large animal models
- Experience in neural tissue biofabrication, including biomaterial characterization, in vitro modeling, therapeutic screening, and in vivo implantation
- Additional expertise in nerve fusion and the delivery and evaluation of neuroprotective drugs
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. or equivalent degree
- A demonstrated record of high-impact research and innovation in neural repair, with a minimum of four years of postdoctoral experience
- Prior involvement in NIH-, DoD-, or VA-funded research is strongly preferred
- Experience in managing sponsored research projects, including coordination with internal and external collaborators, budget oversight, and regulatory compliance
- Experience in commercialization activities—such as patent filings, industry collaborations, or early-stage venture formation—is highly valued
- A strong record of securing intramural and extramural funding
