About the role

The Department of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years).

Responsibilities

  • Conducting independent and collaborative research in structural proteomics, chemical biology, and mitochondrial biology
  • Developing and implementing mass spectrometry-based workflows including chemical crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL-MS), quantitative proteomics, and protein interaction mapping
  • Operating and maintaining advanced LC-MS/MS instrumentation
  • Analyzing complex proteomics datasets
  • Mentoring students and trainees
  • Contributing to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and collaborative research projects

Requirements

  • Expertise in the specific area of mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including experience with LC-MS/MS instrumentation, experimental design, and proteomics data analysis
  • Strong expertise in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and quantitative proteomics approaches
  • A strong record of original peer-reviewed publications, scientific leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing independent research projects and working effectively within collaborative multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with Orbitrap-based mass spectrometry platforms, quantitative proteomics workflows, and advanced proteomics software tools
