Research Associate II - Jiang Lab - Lung Institute

The Research Associate II will work in the Noble and Jiang Laboratory, focusing on cellular and molecular mechanisms of lung inflammation and fibrosis.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures.
• Develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.
• Participates in research activities involving investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and reporting findings.
• Supports the objectives of laboratory research projects by performing a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures.
• Observes and follows safety standards and procedures.
• Assists in preparing data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
• Aids in general laboratory maintenance.
• Investigates molecular mechanisms of lung fibrosis and participates in research projects involving innate immune, stem cells, extracellular matrix, resident mesenchymal cells, and fibroblast lineages in lung injury and repair.
• Utilizes experimental approaches such as molecular biology, genetically modified mice, lineage tracing, lung injury models, prospective isolation and organoid culture of lung stem cells, single cell RNA-seq, immunology, and genomics studies.
• May assist with animal husbandry.
• Maintains lab equipment and related records.
• Transports, processes, and logs samples.
• Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.
• Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.
• Maintains stocks of general lab materials and places orders for equipment and supplies.
• Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.
• Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assists in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.
• Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
• Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.
• Orients research laboratory assistants or lower-level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Science-related field, required.
• One year of research laboratory experience is required.
• Must possess working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.
• Digital literacy in Excel and Word is required.
