Research Associate, Center for Diabetes Technology (UVA)
About the role
The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) and the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invite applications for Postdoctoral Research Associates focused on developing and analyzing technology, algorithms, and data management systems for diabetes treatment. CDT is a global leader in diabetes technology and part of an international research network. The successful candidate will work under Dr. Marc Breton, PhD, and Dr. Boris Kovatchev, PhD, both renowned researchers in diabetes and technology.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-profile, NIH-funded and other sponsored research in biotechnology, biomedical engineering, advanced mathematics, and Data Science.
- Expand Center-related research lines in areas such as machine learning for risk prediction, control, classification, and treatment progression.
- Develop and validate in silico-designed treatments and diabetes-related technology.
- Attend diabetes and technology conferences regularly.
- Perform independent research under the supervision of accomplished faculty members and physicians.
Requirements
Required:
- Doctoral degree completed at time of hire.
- Research experience in machine learning, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, advanced mathematics, or Data Science.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience with machine learning methods for risk prediction, control, classification, and treatment progression.
- Knowledge of metabolic and behavioral computer simulations related to diabetes and pre-diabetes.
- Experience modeling, simulating, and model-based analysis of glucose metabolism and control.
- Ability to test and validate in silico-designed treatments and diabetes-related technology.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Schedule
This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional two, one-year increments contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.
