About the role

The Diabetes Center of the University of California, San Francisco is seeking to appoint a faculty member at the Assistant Adjunct level whose research program focuses on the immunology of immune tolerance in the thymus. In particular, this work will utilize the AIre-mouse model and other related genetic mutations to unravel the display of self antigens in the thymus and how their development is regulated.

The Diabetes Center is chartered to investigate type I&II diabetes, as well as the development, differentiation and homeostasis of the cell types and tissues manifesting these diseases. Relevant research areas include: immunology/inflammation, β-cell biology, insulin resistance, and stem research. The appointee will occupy space in the Diabetes Center on the Parnassus campus of UCSF, and will be a member of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program.

The successful candidates are required to hold a PhD, or MD/PhD degree, and to have a research relevant to type I or type II diabetes, and be committed to the Diabetes Center.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Adjunct Professor will:

  • Utilize the AIre-mouse model and other related genetic mutations to study the display of self antigens in the thymus and their regulation.
  • Contribute to the investigation of type I and type II diabetes, focusing on the development, differentiation, and homeostasis of cell types and tissues involved in these diseases.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the Diabetes Center to advance knowledge in immunology, β-cell biology, insulin resistance, and stem research.
  • Occupy space in the Diabetes Center on the Parnassus campus of UCSF.
  • Be a member of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program.

Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold a PhD, or MD/PhD degree.
  • Have a research background relevant to type I or type II diabetes.
  • Be committed to the Diabetes Center.

  • A strong research background in immunology, particularly in the context of immune tolerance and thymic development.
  • Experience working with the AIre-mouse model and related genetic mutations.
