Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and validate models for acoustic propagation in complex ocean environments over a range of spatial scales and frequencies.
- 20% Develop computationally efficient approaches for propagation modeling that allow their execution on embedded systems in undersea platforms.
- Investigate uncertainty in acoustic propagation and approaches to quantify it using in-situ acoustic observations.
- Develop strategies for making decisions based on acoustic propagation models in collaboration with researchers from other disciplines.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of researchers in academia and industry to advance specific project goals;
- Support the planning and execution of at-sea experiments, data collection, and data analysis;
- Communicate research results to sponsors and the scientific community through briefings, working groups, meetings, and publications.
Requirements
- Candidates must hold an earned research doctorate in physics, engineering, mathematics, applied physics, or other related disciplines.
- Evidence for the ability to obtain external research funding.
- Ability to travel (~10% of the time) to support field work and program reviews.
- Candidates must be a US citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting acoustic field work at sea and analyzing data in the field.
- A demonstrated record of collaboration amongst academic, industry, and government partners.
- Active involvement in professional organizations.
- Skill in working with culturally diverse constituencies in the academic environment.
- Experience as a research mentor to undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarship.
