Job Summary
About the role
The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Professor Yury Gogotsi seek a Research Professor to lead a team of up to 50 students, postdocs, and visiting researchers focused on the development and applications of MXenes.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to our group of up to 50 students, postdocs, and visiting researchers.
- Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on research projects.
- Offer guidance in the group’s research efforts in synthesizing and characterizing 2D materials.
- Expertly perform key research activities, including synthesis and characterization techniques for carbon nanostructures, Mo₂C, and other 2D materials, such as MXenes.
- Write research proposals and apply for research grants.
- Offer guidance and input as needed on all parts of the project, which includes electrochemistry applications, such as for water desalination.
- Perform typical physical demands, including sitting at a desk/table, standing, walking, and lifting ≤ 25 lbs.
Requirements
- Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of laboratory or industrial manufacturing experience after graduation.
- Strong experimentalist with demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience.
Qualifications
- Career trajectory of a faculty position or research leader in industry with a keen ability to manage and mentor postdocs, students, visiting researchers, etc., in the lab.
- Self-starter, able to work independently and support graduate and undergraduate students.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and ability to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Strong background in materials science and engineering.
- Experience with 2D materials synthesis and characterization.
