About the role

This position is a 12-month non-tenure-track research appointment at the Agricultural Research Station, College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology, at Fort Valley State University.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish a competitively funded independent research program in ruminant nutrition.
  • Address critical and emerging issues in ruminant nutrition, including improved nutritional content of products, reducing environmental footprint in climate-smart livestock management, exploring alternative feedstuffs, and assessing the role of nutrition in animal wellbeing and health.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Recruit students for the animal science program.
  • Serve on institutional committees.
  • Provide services to professional organizations, the University, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition.
  • Demonstrated competency in using available statistical software.
  • Evidence of research excellence in the area of ruminant nutrition.
  • Ability to generate external funding.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues in teaching, research, and extension.
  • Experience beyond the Ph.D. is desirable.

Working Conditions

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with travel as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors with variable environmental conditions as required for research.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and navigate in tight spaces.
  • Ability to handle sharp knives and other cutting equipment.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
