About the role

The Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston (UH) seeks a non-tenure track faculty member for a Research Assistant Professor or Research Associate Professor position beginning in August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the SPACE City Panel, a multi-year longitudinal survey project housed at the Center for Public Policy
  • Develop and grow the panel
  • Fundraising
  • Production of research reports and peer-reviewed publications
  • Manage the panel's public profile through media engagement and stakeholder communications
  • Build and maintain partnerships and collaborations with government agencies, community organizations, and academic researchers
  • Secure external funding for research through grants and contracts
  • Support a variety of projects and research activities of the Hobby School and the Center for Public Policy
  • Teach one or two courses during the academic year (paid as overloads)

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field
  • At least three years of research experience and a commensurate publication record
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience
  • Experience conducting research using surveys and administrative data sources
  • Strong record of partnerships and collaborations with government agencies, community organizations, and academic researchers
  • Experience securing external funding for research through grants and contracts
  • Experience with survey research, quantitative methods, statistical analysis and visualization, and interdisciplinary public policy research

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in economic and policy analysis
  • Strong record of producing and publishing nationally recognized, interdisciplinary work on significant public policy issues
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, work collaboratively with faculty and external partners, and contribute to the research mission of the Hobby School and the Center for Public Policy

Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience and rank. The initial term is one academic year and may be renewable after the initial term.
